The African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA) says it is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Molefe Mahape as their new Chairperson.
AFASA President AJ Mthembu says the appointment of Mahape comes at a critical time when the country is implementing the Agriculture and Agroprocessing Master Plan (AAMP) and issuing Title Deeds to the beneficiaries of Land Reform in South Africa.
Mahape has a long experience in leadership positions, especially in the academic profession, firstly as a teacher, principal and rector of a College of Education and later as a Director of Institution of Education at the North West University.
Agriculture is not strange to Mahape as he grew up in a rural agricultural household, in Fafung Village.
He is an experienced farmer and a founding member of AFASA. He farms with goats and lucerne in the small agricultural town of Brits in North West Province.
“The organisation therefore needs someone of Mr Mahape’s background and experience to ensure that the views of ordinary farmers are heard and that the implementation of the AAMP is carried out with precision. Similarly, Mr Mahape will be critical in ensuring that the issuing of Title Deeds to farmers is done without prejudice,” concludes AJ Mthembu.
