NERPO has expressed disappointment about the distribution of the inputs of agricultural relief fund vouchers by the government suppliers

The National Emergent Redmeat Producers Organisation (NERPO) has reacted with shock and disbelief following the failure of some of the government suppliers to distribute inputs to the farmers who successfully applied and approved for the Covid 19 Agriculture Relief Fund
Vouchers.

Mr Aggrey Mahanjana, the Group Managing Director of NERPO, said, “it is almost 3 months since the relief vouchers were issued to farmers for the collection of inputs from the government approved suppliers across the country and yet most of our farmers are still idling with the vouchers and in some cases, there is only a small portion that has been distributed.”

According to Mahanjana the relief fund vouchers were a mere stop gap measure in order to prevent the catastrophic conditions under which farmers found themselves during the outbreak of Covid 19 early this year.

“We have warned the government about the manner in which the relief fund vouchers should be distributed, and the government assured us that they will appoint suppliers who are credible to supply inputs and enough stock. To our surprise and dismay, the opposite is true.”

“We are calling on the Minister of Agriculture Ms Thoko Didiza to intervene as matter of extreme urgency. We have seen the abuse of power and corruption on the distribution of PPEs, and I am afraid, we may be having the same problem with this relief fund vouchers,” said Mahanjana
